Why this project

Every child deserves a classroom that tells them their future matters.

Central School Umunya was damaged during the civil war and has never been properly repaired since. It is functioning today, but severely deteriorated. We are mobilising the funding to move it from unsafe and inadequate conditions toward a renewed learning environment marked by safety, dignity, opportunity and hope.

This is more than a construction project. It is a coordinated investment in 523 children, their teachers, their families, and the future of a community.

Proposed restoration, front elevation.

How the $250,000 breaks down

A two-phase reconstruction plan, not a single ask.

The board reviewed the full costing and decided to pursue this as two accountable phases rather than one $250,000 request. Phase 1 makes the priority classrooms safe and weather-tight. Phase 2 completes the learning environment. This is a provisional, board-approved planning framework — not evidence that the full scope can be completed within this amount. Figures will be refined as professional drawings, quantities and contractor quotations are finalized.
